NEW CAR DESIGN: The No. 66 entry is displaying a different paint design this weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Best Buy, which has been the primary sponsor of the No. 66 Haas CNC Racing Chevrolet in a number of events this season, is promoting its expertise in the area of high-definition (HD) televisions and home theaters with the pledge, "HD Done Right." The pledge, along with the yellow Best Buy tag logo, will appear on the hood of the No. 66 entry this weekend.
Mike Vitelli, the senior vice president of merchandising at Best Buy, explained the meaning of "HD Done Right."
"Consumers have never spent this kind of money on a TV before, and it is a big deal," Vitelli said. "When you make an investment like this, you want it to be great. Moreover, you need all the pieces of the puzzle to have a great experience and therefore, a fully satisfied customer. That is why you see us trying to educate the customer through our HD Done Right pledge. HD Done Right gives customers financial incentives to do what is actually in their best interest. It encourages them to get what they really need to get that home theater experience that they always wanted.
"It works like this. Come to Best Buy and purchase an HD TV that is 37 inches or larger, let us install it for you and upgrade your signal to high definition, and right now, we will give you up to 0 off the price of your TV. We believe this strategy will materially reduce returns and increase the needed attachments of accessories and subscription service centers that are needed. More importantly, it will deliver that experience that the customer was looking for, so it is a win for everybody."
LAST RACE AT LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY: In the May Nextel Cup Series event at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Jeff Green qualified 10th and ran up front for most of the race. Green led 16 laps on his way to a 12th-place finish, the best finish of the season for the No. 66 Best Buy Chevrolet.
Q&A WITH DRIVER JEFF GREEN:
GIVEN HOW WELL YOU PERFORMED THERE LAST TIME, ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING BACK TO LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY? "Yeah, I am. I'm sure the setup we'll take back is a little bit different from the one we had there in May, but that was a really good night for us. It felt really good to get up front and lead some laps and really be in the mix from the drop of the green flag right up until the finish.
"It's no secret we've struggled this season, but we're coming off a top-10 finish at Talladega and we know we can run well at Lowe's (Motor Speedway), so I think it's a good confidence boost for our team overall to know we're heading to another track where we've got a real shot at another top-10."
Q&A WITH CREW CHIEF "BOOTIE" BARKER:
THE NO. 66 TEAM TOOK PART IN THE "CAR OF TOMORROW" TEST AT TALLADEGA ON MONDAY. WHAT DID YOU LEARN AT THE TEST? "NASCAR just had us try out a number of different setup variations, with different gears and different size restrictor plates to see which package is going to work best for the new car.
"As far as how the car handled, Jeff (Green) said it handled very similar to how the cars we presently use handle. The thing is, I don't know if Talladega (Superspeedway), now that it's been repaved and is so incredibly smooth, can provide us with the feedback and information we really need. When we take these cars to Daytona (International Speedway), where it's much bumpier and the cars are going to move around a lot more, it's going to be a whole different situation.
"If you ask me what I predict we'll see when we come back to Talladega next spring with this new car, I think you'll see NASCAR mandating bigger gears and a slightly larger restrictor plate."
THE WAY THE RACE ENDED AT TALLADEGA LAST WEEKEND WAS CONTROVERSIAL. WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS ON HOW THE LAST LAP UNFOLDED? "Well, there's no question that Brian Vickers didn't mean to wreck Jimmie (Johnson) or Dale (Earnhardt) Jr. It was a ‘racin' deal.' It's the last lap of the race, and everyone's going for the win. I have no problem with what happened.
"At that point, it's ‘go time.' All bets are off, and it's his responsibility to the people on his team, and I mean the No. 25 team, not necessarily all of Hendrick Motorsports, to do everything he can to win the race. Again, I don't think it was intentional, but I don't think Vickers has anything to be ashamed about. That's all part of racing.
"Now, if I was in Chad Knaus' shoes (Johnson's crew chief), I might have a totally different opinion, but I think Dale Jr. had the right attitude about it. It's restrictor-plate racing. Wrecks are going to happen."
FRIDAY THE 13TH: While NASCAR crew members are traditionally a superstitious bunch, don't expect to see "Bootie" Barker, crew chief for the No. 66 Best Buy "HD Done Right" Chevrolet, hiding out this Friday the 13th.
Barker: "I don't consider myself that superstitious, but I also don't tempt fate. I don't eat peanuts at the track, and I don't usually keep dollar bills on me, since those are two of the big superstitions some crew guys have.
"As for it being Friday the 13th, there's not much I can do about that, so I don't think about it. It's not like I can protest that it's Friday the 13th and call in sick or something. We've got a job to do at the track that day, so you just go do it.
"Now, if a black cat crosses my path on the way to the track that day, I might drive a little slower or be more careful when I come to a red light, but other than that, it's just another day."
